By Melissa Garcia

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4)- A man is recovering in the hospital after a shooting at a Loveland mobile home park.

The accused gunman is in custody, charged with attempted murder.

Loveland police responded at the scene of the shooting on Caroline Court near Camellia Place just after 5 p.m. Saturday to find a 39-year-old man who had been shot at his home.

The victim has been identified as Shane McWhorter. He remained in critical condition at Rocky Mountain Regional Medical Center on Sunday evening.

Nearby residents heard a sound they say is familiar.

"Usually there's fireworks going off year-round," said one neighbor.

But the pops that went off were not what he thought.

"I thought I heard some fireworks going off on 4th of July weekend," the neighbor said. "And apparently, it was a shooting right here in the trailer park."

Police said that the male suspect and his female driver took off before officers arrived. Officers located them in a vehicle a short time later.

Thomas Collins, 33, of Fort Collins remained behind bars in the Larimer County Jail on Sunday.

Collins will be charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

The female driver was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.

According to police, a preliminary investigation shows that Collins went to McWhorter's home to confront him on some sort of disagreement.

Police said that during the confrontation, Collins fired at least one round at him.

A background check reveals that Collins has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2001.
