By Andrea Flores

DENVER (CBS4)- The family of a woman seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver is asking the suspect to come forward.

Amber Pennington was stopped at a red light near 66th Avenue and Federal Boulevard early Friday morning when a car slammed into her scooter from behind.

"I just remember getting hit and feeling the dread that I knew what was going to come after," said Amber Pennington. "After that I blacked out."

Pennington, 25, was on her way home from grabbing pizza with friends around 2 a.m. Friday when the impact sent her flying to the side of the road.

The driver who struck her drove away.

"It's really hard to see your child laying there like that," said Amber's mom, Heidi Knight. "It's so unnecessary."

Pennington suffered serious injuries, including multiple pelvic fractures, broken ribs, and a broken nose.

Doctors say the helmet she was wearing saved her life.

Now, Pennington's family wants an answer from the suspect.

"Please just come forward and tell me why you left her there," Knight said.

Colorado State Patrol has no leads on the suspect, or the vehicle the suspect was driving. Pennington says she wants her hit-and-run driver to know how she feels.

"I hope that they feel true remorse, especially since they didn't have the integrity to stop," said Pennington.

CSP asks anyone who may have seen the accident to give them a call at (303) 239-4587.
