Pet Store Owner Sentenced To Probation

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4)- One man convicted of keeping animals in filthy conditions at a pet store in Thornton has been sentenced to one year probation.

Kenneth Mark Kubic was one of the owners of Jurassic Pets. Some of the animals at the store were extremely malnourished and died from neglect.

Last year Thornton police searched and seized snakes, lizards, rodents and more from the pet store in Thornton. The seizure came after the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals infiltrated the stores taking jobs as employees and volunteers. They took video which purports to show rodents being beaten.

One employee can be heard saying, "After you whack them a few times sometimes they don't fully go (die),"

Another person is heard stating, "So you're just trying to break his neck right now, or?"

"Yeah," the employee replied.

Other animals at the store needed veterinary care.

Kubic cannot work with animals as part of his sentence.

Lynn Denise Kubic, Kenneth's wife, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty. Their son Brian Kubic pleaded guilty in April.
