A Hot Start To The Week With Late Day Storms

By Dave Aguilera

DENVER (CBS4) - Temperatures for the first few days of the week ahead will be on the hot side with upper 80s to near 90 degrees through mid-week. There are two weather features we will be dealing with to start the week. It does seem like the Southwest Monsoon (annual reversal of wind flow over the southwest) is beginning to come alive. This will keep moisture streaming up from Mexico into the southern Rocky Mountain region.

As a result we will be locked into a pattern of daily afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances for several days. The second element for Monday's weather pattern is a weak cold front that will back into northeastern Colorado by afternoon on Monday. This will help to build stronger storms late in the day. There is a marginal chance that some of the storms that build on Monday may go severe. With hail and strong winds being the biggest threat. There wont be many storms, but, those that do form may be strong.

By the time we get to Thursday we have a bigger weather change to look forward to. Much cooler air will settle in over the eastern plains along with a better chance for rain and thunderstorms to develop.
