Children's Hospital Hopes To Start Father Day's Tradition For Former Patients

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - It was a special Father's Day reunion for fathers at Children's Hospital Colorado on Sunday.

The dads who attended almost weren't dads -- until their unborn babies received lifesaving treatment. Dozens of families reconnected with the doctors who operated on their children.

The dads were treated to a day of fun and games outside. It was also a chance for the now grown-up kids to meet the medical teams who saved their lives.

"We see them when they're in the hospital and when they're sick, but we don't know how they're doing after they go home. So it's nice to reconnect and see how they're thriving at home," said Dr. Ken Liechty, pediatric and fetal surgeon.

"It's great to hear other people's stories and know that other people did go something similar that your family went through," father Josh Tweedt said.

The Children's Hospital staff says they'd like to make the reunion a new Father's Day tradition.
