Hot Father's Day Before Showers Monday

By Justin McHeffey

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver technically tied the record high for June 19! It was 98 degrees at the Museum of Nature and Science. I say "technically" because the weather station was located in Stapleton when the original record was set in 1989.

The good news is that we won't have to endure this heat for much longer. A cold front drops through the area Monday and will bring us into the middle 80s. Cloud cover is expected for most of the day with a chance of showers through the afternoon. Some storms could become stronger east of Denver along the Palmer Divide.

The 90s are back Tuesday as the desert air moves back into the picture. The forecast high is 97 for that day, while the record stands at 99 degrees for June 21. It's not impossible for that record to fall as well.

More moisture is possible for the end of the week with some afternoon thunderstorms Thursday and Friday.
