Man Gets Life In Prison For Killing Woman, Stuffing Body In Motel Sofa

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) — A man accused of beating and strangling a disabled woman to death and stuffing her body in a sofa at a motel in Adams County has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The Adams County District Attorney's Office says 31-year-old Emiliano Urioste was sentenced Thursday for the death of 31-year-old Abigail Cozad. He was convicted of several charges, including first-degree murder and robbery.

Prosecutors say Urioste killed Cozad and planned to set the sofa and motel room on fire. His plan was foiled when he returned to the motel and found police there June 1, 2015.

Cozad was physically and cognitively impaired because of a car crash. Prosecutors say she had become involved with Urioste, who had free use of her credit cards and cash.
