Navy: SEAL From Highlands Ranch Death Blamed On Errors
CORONADO, Calif. (AP) — The Navy investigation into last year's death of a SEAL from Highlands Ranch during parachute training blames errors made by supervisors and inexperience.
Jason Kortz, 29, plummeted to his death after his main parachute got tangled during a high-altitude jump in March 2015.
A Naval Special Warfare probe cited that Kortz's body position was wrong when he exited the aircraft.
According to top Navy SEAL Rear Admiral Brian Losey, Kortz's supervisors allowed the inexperienced parachutist to participate in a complex jump before he was ready.
Naval Special Warfare Group One is the Coronado-based SEALs group to which the sailor was assigned.
The probe also found there was no single cause or one person responsible for the incident.
SEAL officials say training has been changed.
