Diners Who Ate At Pho 75 In Aurora May Be At Risk For E. Coli

By Suzanne McCarroll

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Tri-county health officials need help identifying who ate at Pho 75 on 2050 S. Havana Street.

Officials say four diners have contracted E. coli from food they ate there.

One had to be hospitalized and health officials say there are likely others in the community at risk.

On Monday, customers found the doors of the restaurant locked while inspectors try to encourage the staff to correct the many food safety issues that they found at the restaurant.

An inspection report cites, among other things, raw beef being stored inappropriately, a food worker not washing his hands, and containers of cooked blood being stored improperly.

Brian Hlavacek with the Tri-County Health Department said this isn't the first time this restaurant has had problems.

"We've worked with them quite a bit over the last few years, they've had inspections that weren't so great," said Hlavacek.

Dr. Bernadette Albonese, also of the Tri-County Health department, said the symptoms of E.coli are vomiting, diarrhea, and sometimes kidney problems.

"Because of the potential of the severity of the illness, particularly in children, we are quite concerned," said Albonese.

Restaurant workers were inside but chose not to open the doors or talk to our CBS4 crew. On Monday, health inspectors were back at the restaurant to see if the problems had been corrected. Officials say those problems have not been corrected so there is no date set for reopening.
