Firefighter Injured During Wildfire Training

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- A Boulder firefighter was injured during wildland fire training at Four Pines Trail on Monday morning. Fire investigators called it a "freak accident."

Crews from the Boulder Fire Rescue teamed up with wildland firefighters for the simulated wildfire on Monday morning near the intersection of 17th Street and King Avenue.

As they were getting ready to start the drill about 8:48 a.m., Boulder Fire Rescue Engineer Thomas Albert became entangled in a moving hose attached to the fire truck and was pulled to the ground.

Albert was conscious and breathing and had non-life threatening injuries at the time he was transported to Boulder Community Health.

"The police department is currently out working the area of the accident because we have a very specialized traffic unit, we're able to precisely diagram what exactly occurred and able to give that info back to the fire department so we're able to have some lessons learned from this incident so it hopefully doesn't happen again," said Boulder Fire spokeswoman Shannon Cordingly.

Albert has been with Boulder Fire Rescue for 20 years.
