Police Believe Drugs A Factor In 6-Vehicle Crash In Aurora
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police believe speed and drugs were a factor in a multiple-vehicle crash in Aurora Saturday evening.
According to Sgt. William Revelle, officers responded to the accident just before 5:30 p.m. and found six vehicles were involved.
"The investigation revealed that several cars where stopped in all four lanes of northbound South Parker Road at East Fair Avenue for a red light. A red Lexus Sedan was northbound at a high rate of speed approaching those vehicles," Revelle said in a statement.
The Lexus drifted from the far left lane into a middle lane and rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu.
"The Malibu was pushed into the number four lane (right turn only lane) where it struck a Nissan Xterra. The Nissan Xterra was in turn pushed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee," Revelle said. "After the Lexus struck the initial Malibu, it rolled onto its roof and continued sliding northbound. It sideswiped a Nissan Versa that was stopped at the front of the number three lane and then struck a Mazda CX-7 that was westbound through the intersection. The Mazda had the green light. The Lexus came to rest just past the Mazda."
The drivers of the Lexus and Malibu both were hospitalized with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Nobody else was injured.
"At this time, it appears speed and driving under the influence of drugs are factors in this accident," Revelle said.
No names have been released.
