Teen Charged In Shooting Death Of His Brother

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Formal charges have been filed against the 17-year-old who allegedly shot and killed his younger brother in Aurora earlier this week.

Jalecc Taylor has been charged with negligent child abuse resulting in death and juvenile in possession of a handgun. He appeared in court on Thursday morning.

Police believe Taylor, 17, shot and killed his 10-year-old brother Anthony "Jemel" Hemmings-Taylor.

On Thursday, the coroner ruled that the boy died of a gunshot wound and that the cause was homicide.

Police responded to the Nordic Arms Apartments at the intersection of Galena Street and East Colfax Avenue at 9:45 p.m. last Friday. Authorities said they found Hemmings-Taylor suffering from the injury inside an apartment on the first floor of the building. The officers were unable to save the boy.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Taylor at 9 a.m. on July 11.

Taylor's picture is not being released because he is a juvenile.
