5 Children, 3 Adults Treated For Smoke In Apartment Fire

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - Three adults and five children had to be treated for smoke inhalation on Thursday morning after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Greeley.

Fire investigators said food left on the stove when the stove was on started the fire.

Crews had to cut a hole in the roof to keep the flames from spreading, and they had to help one person get to safety.

The building is located on the 1100 block of 12th Avenue in the downtown Greeley area. The fire started just after 7 a.m.

Most of the people who were treated for smoke didn't have serious injuries.

A building inspector was checking on the structural safety of the building.

"The age of the building can be a challenge depending on the type of construction that can sometimes be a challenge to contain fire spread. However there was no fire spread outside of the apartment of origin," said Greeley Fire Marshall Pete Morgan.
