DENVER (CBS4)- Some Red Cross volunteers from Colorado and Wyoming traveled to Texas to help with the flooding in that state.

A total of eight volunteers with the American Red Cross, along with four trucks, will join others in the relief efforts and cleanup from devastating flooding across the southeaster portion of the Lone Star state.

Residents of some rural southeastern Texas counties braced for more flooding Tuesday along a river that had reached a record-high crest just two years after it had run dry in places because of drought.

The National Weather Service said the Brazos River crested at nearly 54 feet Tuesday in Fort Bend County, which is just southwest of Houston and home to many suburbs. That eclipsed the previous record by three feet and exceeded levels reached in 1994, when extensive flooding caused major damage.

The deployment will be 14 to 21 days depending on the needs of those affected by the floods. The volunteers will help interview those displaced by the floods and deliver supplies as well as help with cleanup efforts.
