11-Year-Old Girl Dies Days After Getting Hit By SUV

By Howard Nathan

SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4) – A little girl has died days after she was hit by a vehicle while riding her bike.

Aundrea Plunkett, 11, was struck by a vehicle last Sunday on Zuni Street near Hampden Avenue. Life support was removed on Thursday.

"She would make me pull over on the side of the road and give a guy a dollar," said her stepfather Ken Wilson.

Wilson said Plunkett suffered massive internal injuries. Her collision with a Ford Expedition happened near her house.

"She would come down the hill and push her brakes on and come in here and stop," said ken.

Wilson confronted the driver after the collision.

"I said, 'You hit my daughter,' and he goes, 'Well, what do I do?' I said, 'Call 911 man.' He asked me where he was. I said, "You're at the corner of Zuni and Girard, would you please call 911 before my daughter dies in the street.'"

"It appears initially there was an attempt to swerve and there was some braking," said Sheridan Police Chief Mark Campbell.

Campbell said it doesn't appear the driver was speeding.

"Sometimes kids will be kids and they make a mistake and unfortunately it ends tragically," Campbell said.

Doctors harvested her organs. Her parents thought Plunkett would want to save lives.

"Her right kidney has already been passed to a patient for their life," Wilson said.

The family is planning a memorial service for her on Monday.
