Brian Scott Pattison, 30, faces murder and arson charges as well as multiple weapons charges.

The crime happened on May 2. Investigators say Pattison shot Shane Richardson, 29, who lived above Rosenberg's, a bagel shop at Welton Street and 26th Avenue in Denver's Five Points neighborhood.

Then Pattison allegedly set the building on fire to cover up the murder. Richardson's body was found stuffed in a closet by firefighters who put out the fire.

Two days after the fire, Colorado State troopers made an arrest 200 miles away that would eventually lead authorities to the man believed to have committed the crime. Troopers pulled over Pattison who was driving 101 mph.

According to arrest records, Pattison tried to use a fake name and during a police pat-down it was discovered that he had a gun.

Pattison remains in custody at the Las Animas County Jail. His first court appearance in Denver has not been set.

Investigators have not revealed how Pattison was identified as a suspect in the murder. He was on parole from a previous conviction and carrying a firearm violated those terms.

It is unclear whether the weapon used to killed Richardson is the same that was found on Pattison.

Rosenberg's has been closed at the Five Points location but they are currently selling their bagels at The Source in Denver's RiNo neighborhood.
