Recent Hail Damage Claims Only A Dent In Severe Weather Season

By Andrea Flores

DENVER (CBS4) - Hail, heavy winds, and severe weather have auto repair shops around the Denver area slammed with claims.

"Just within the last 48 hours we've seen something in the range of 50 plus claims," said Front Range Dent Removal owner Anson Roberts.

Front Range Dent Removal has been in business since 2012 and their busy season has only just begun. They advise drivers to file repair claims before the next hailstorm hits.

"We've actually had customers who've decided to wait thinking they may save a deductible, and may be able to wrap it into one claim," said Roberts. "But they end up with so much damage their vehicle totals. So it's a little bit of a gamble."

Roberts also reminds drivers to avoid fly-by-night operations that aren't worth the risk.

"Find a place that really suits you well, and where you feel you can trust your vehicle," Roberts said. "It's one of the largest purchases you're going to make in your life. There's no reason to jeopardize that for a few dollars."

State Farm Insurance Agent Barb Frank says more than 200 home and auto claims for hail damage have already been filed since Tuesday's storm, and that's only a dent for severe weather season.

"Even before it hails, one recommendation would be make sure you have comprehensive coverage on your car policy," Frank said.

Roberts says it's also important to pick a service provider you can trust.

"We just encourage people to do the best thing for their vehicle because it will be the best thing for their wallet in the long run, too," Roberts said.

Front Range Dent Removal says drivers shouldn't feel like they have to pick a repair shop recommended by their insurance provider. They say it's best to pick a place where drivers know they'll get the best service.
