AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Aurora police are investigating a shooting that resulted in a police chase through the Park Hill neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Gerold Hopkins was working on a construction site nearby.

"We were actually on the road when it happened. Luckily we were on the right side of the street," Hopkins said.

According to police, a shooting occurred at 12th Avenue and Yosemite Street sometime after 1 p.m. One person was shot in the chest and transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses identified a silver SUV as a possible suspect vehicle. A short time later an Aurora police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description.

Diana Cooley, a spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department, said the SUV was reported stolen and with information that three possible attempted homicide suspects could be inside an officer attempted a traffic stop.

"One of our officers did spot the car and a pursuit was authorized," Cooley said.

Nearly 10 miles from the shooting scene the suspects crashed near some railroad tracks near Dahlia Street. Hopkins witnessed the chaotic ending.

"What happened is they went all the way up the ramp here and hit the train tracks and that's where they stopped," he said.

They were eventually arrested in a cemetery on Brighton Boulevard.

No names have been released.
