Poudre River Spilling Over Banks In Greeley
GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - Crews have closed a portion of 71st Avenue between West 10th Street and West 4th Street in Greeley where water has spilled over the banks of the Cache La Poudre River and is running across the road.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the river near Greeley where the flood stage is 8 feet and water is running at 7.5 feet.
As snowmelt adds to the river's flow people are being advised to stay away from banks that may become unstable. Officials expect minor flooding in areas from Windsor to Greeley, especially on trails.
A spokesman for Greeley's streets department said the 71st Avenue closure is the only flood-related blockage in the city so far.
River flows are expected to hold steady Tuesday night before starting to recede through Friday. First responders in Golden on Tuesday practiced swift water rescue techniques on Clear Creek and are urging folks to stay out of the water.
