Pinales was stabbed seven times after he returned to their home from working his second job at about 3 a.m., according to Lindsay.

"Deputy District Attorney Courtney Thiemann said Bermudez was hiding in a dark room when she ambushed Pinales, attacking him with a knife, puncturing his liver and gall bladder," Lindsay said. "Pinales left a trail of blood as he fled to a neighbor's home where he called 911, telling police he had been assaulted by his wife."

The couple had three children, then ages 13, 11 and 8 who were inside the home with the stabbing occurred.
