Prosecutors Want Teen To Share Lessons After Parking Lot Death
RIFLE, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — Prosecutors hope to have the teen charged in the death of an 18-year-old high school student in Rifle talk to other high school students about what happened.
The teen, whose name isn't being released pulled out of a parking space with 18-year-old Kyle Scholla on the hood on April 1. He fell off and later died of his injuries.
District Attorney Sherry Caloia said Tuesday that the teen has been charged with careless driving. However, the Rifle Citizen Telegram reports she wants the teen to enter a diversion program, which offers young, first-time offenders a chance to avoid a criminal conviction.
Police initially said the teen had been "car surfing" but later corrected that, saying the teen's death appeared to be the result of "spontaneous goofing around" rather than "thrill seeking."
