Man Arrested, Suspected Of Ski, Snowboards, Gear Theft

WOLCOTT, Colo. (CBS4)- A Denver man was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 after authorities discovered a large number of stolen skis, snowboards, boots, coats and snowsports gear in his vehicle.

A Colorado State Trooper discovered a truckload of suspicious property after pulling over Nicholas Broviak on May 6 on I-70 near Wolcott. Broviak, 37, was pulled over for failing to signal and following too closely.

A search of the Dodge Ram revealed 12 pairs of skis, 14 snowboards and more than 15 snowsports tools among hundreds of others in black plastic bags. The state trooper confirmed that a number of the items had been reported stolen from various sports rental shops and hotels in Eagle County.

The gear included helmets, coats, goggles, gloves and other clothing.

Investigators from the Eagle County Sheriff's Office and the Vail Police Department discovered that some of the items, including a custom-made fur jacket, had been reported stolen from a private residence in Vail on May 3. Some of the jackets had been reported stolen from a hotel in Beaver Creek.

Broviak has been charged with possession of burglary tools, theft, second-degree burglary and second degree criminal trespass.
