The shooting occurred in the 8400 block of East Colfax Avenue just before 2 p.m.

According to Deputy Chief Mat Murray with Denver Police, one suspect was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound after being shot by an Aurora police officer after a short foot chase. Another suspect was taken into custody.

Murray said the suspect who was shot is alive but listed in critical condition.

"Aurora officers were looking for a suspect in a shooting from the 1900 block of Akron Street approximately 8 minutes prior," Murray said. "They found the suspect, notified Denver officers, a short chase ensued which resulted in an officer-involved shooting."

"I heard gunshots and my nephew ran out of the house to go see what was going on, and by the time I got out here to see what was going on there were police everywhere," neighbor Greg Estes said.

The Denver Police Department will be the primary agency investigating the shooting because it occurred in Denver.
