Police Find Kidnapped Springs Girl Safe In Aurora After Amber Alert
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Aurora have found a 7-year-old Colorado Springs girl after an Amber Alert was issued Wednesday afternoon.
According to police in Colorado Springs, at approximately 8:15 a.m. Wendy Arellano, 25, abducted her daughter, America Arellano, from the Carver Elementary School in Colorado Springs.
Police said just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday Aurora officers investigating leads on the kidnapping responded to the 1300 block of South Geneva Way. Officers found Wendy Arellano in an apartment and arrested her for second-degree kidnapping.
America Arellano was found safe in the apartment and police were in the process of returning her to her foster parents.
"Arellano's parental rights were terminated in January of 2016. She has a history of mental health issues, and she is believed to be a danger to the welfare of the child," police said in a statement.
Police are still searching for an alleged accomplice to the kidnapping. He's been identified as Heriberto Gonzalez Hernandez, 32, who is described as being a Hispanic man, 5-foot-5, 150 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes. He could be driving a gray 2013 Dodge Avenger with Colorado license plate DQH-431.
Anyone who spots Gonzalez Hernandez should call police.
