'Who Stole My Chickens?' Store Owner Wants To Know

By Mark Taylor

DENVER (CBS4)- "Who stole my chickens?" asked the owner of Wardle Feed and Pet Supply after someone stole nearly all their chickens in one week.

Open since 1938, the family-owned business was targeted by thieves twice in a one week and the whole thing was caught on camera.

Wardle Feed and Pet Supply calls itself the oldest feed store in Denver and your one-stop-shop for all things poultry. They sell mostly farm animal feed, but also chickens, roosters, rabbits, goats and other small animals.

On April 26, owners say a suspect dressed in a red sweater and jeans cut through the locks on their chicken coop and stole more than a dozen animals.

"He was carrying a green Rubbermaid container," owner Terri Pearman said of the video, "He took them and just kind of shoved them in there."

The suspect was gone in a few minutes but the following Sunday, seemingly the same man was back again this time he stole a total of 30 chickens.

"To steal chickens, that's pretty weird," Pearman said.

The suspect also jumped over a locked gate and stole supplies and three large roosters that he put inside a small storage container.

"To put three roosters in a small cat box, is pretty cruel," Pearman said.

In both videos the suspect is hooded and his face cannot be seen.
Chickens cost about $30, roosters about $35, but Pearman said she is worried about the welfare of the animals.

"I am just worried about the chickens," Pearman continued, "(I'm) Angry, sick to my stomach."
