Thousands Participate In Walk MS Despite The Wintry Weather

DENVER (CBS4) - Despite the snowy weather thousands came out to Denver's City Park for Walk MS on Saturday. The event supports research to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis.

This year was the 20th anniversary for Myelin Madness at Walk MS Denver. The group was started by Bridget Galindo and her family years ago.

"Twenty years strong and we're just going and doing everything we can to walk in the face of MS," Galindo said.

They were just one of about 5,000 of people who flooded City Park for the annual event.

"We walk until we find a cure," said Carrie Nolan from the National MS Society.

Nolan says although the weather did affect numbers this year, they are right on track to reach their goal of $1 million.

"Even today we had more than 5000 people show up," Nolan said.

The event also featured a new 5K run this year whose runners alone raised $25,000.

"It's a commitment of what people want to do to make a difference in ending MS forever," Nolan said.

While the weather may not have cooperated, walkers like Galindo say it's about representing the community and finding a cure.

"Nothing is going to stop them from doing it, they have a great time no matter," Galindo said.

CBS4 is a proud sponsor of Walk MS.
