Volunteers Plant Trees To Celebrate Earth Day

DENVER (CBS4)- Volunteers from Wells Fargo celebrated Earth Day by adding a little green to one Denver neighborhood.

More than two dozen people took time off from work to plant trees outside the Quigg Newton Housing Complex on 46th Avenue. They planted nearly two dozen trees.

Volunteers with The Park People say everyone can benefit from a little landscaping.

"Trees do so much for our community, they offer us so many environmental, social and economic benefits that really make our communities better places to live and work and play. They make our air and water cleaner, they absorb and store greenhouse gases, they provide habitat for wildlife and they also make our neighborhoods just more beautiful places to spend time outside in," said The Park People volunteer Kim Yuan-Farrell.

Volunteers hope to plant more trees this year to offset the damage done by harmful insects like the Emerald Ash Borer.
