1 Shot, Suspects On The Run After Shooting At Benihana Parking Lot

DENVER (CBS4)- One man was shot and critically injured after a shooting in the parking lot of the Benihana restaurant in the Tamarac shopping center. Two suspects ran away and police continue searching for them.

The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. outside the shopping center located at Hampden and Tamarac. One man was struck several times in the torso and lower extremities.

"It was some guys crashed into two parked cars then they got out and started throwing guns around and then they left, they booked it," said witness Molly Fitzgerald.

Investigators spent hours collecting evidence from the silver Chevy Tahoe involved in the shooting.

A police sergeant said the victim's girlfriend told investigators they were meeting to exchange tickets in the parking lot when something happened and shots were fired. The two suspects ran away after crashing their SUV.

Police tweeted out an update on the situation.

Police say the victim's girlfriend then attempted to drive the man to the hospital but ended up having to flag down an ambulance miles away. The man suffered critical injuries.

Police are not sure if the victim returned fire.

"It was pretty intense, pretty intense, the cops got here pretty quick," said Fitzgerald.

Police searched for the suspect matching this description: a black male in his 30s, 5-foot-10, stocky build wearing a blue and white plaid shirt.

That suspect may be accompanied by another black male in his 20s with braids.
