Man Accused Of Shooting Officer Tony Lopez Jr. Pleads Not Guilty

DENVER (CBS4)- The man accused of shooting a Denver police officer pleaded not guilty in court on Monday.

Jason Wood entered the plea on Monday morning. He has been charged with shooting Sgt. Tony Lopez Jr. during a traffic stop last year.

Lopez was seriously injured in the shooting at 37th and Federal on Dec. 8, 2015. He was shot six times and lost a lot of blood. He had to endure several surgeries and months of physical therapy.

Lopez also threw out the first pitch at the Colorado Rockies home opener earlier this month.

Deputies found a homemade knife made from a piece of metal crutches in Wood's jail cell. He will face additional charges for that.
