Man Accused Of Embezzling From Atlanta Charter Schools Arrested In Colorado

ATLANTA (AP) - A man accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from Atlanta area charter schools has been arrested in Colorado.

Atlanta Police spokesman officer Donald Hannah said in an emailed statement Tuesday that the FBI Fugitive Task Force found Christopher Clemons in the Denver area and took him into custody.

Authorities say Clemons launched The Latin Schools Foundation, which provided schools with application and start-up help. Investigators say Clemons allegedly charged roughly $600,000 to school credit cards to pay for travel expenses, meals and trips to night clubs while he was finance director for The Latin Academy.

Authorities say he's also accused of embezzling more than $123,000 from two other charter schools in Fulton County.

Police say Clemons will be extradited to Atlanta. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
