Road Rage Suspect Arrested After Deputies Attacked

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Deputies in Larimer County arrested a man wanted in a road rage incident who also attacked law enforcement officers trying to detain him.

Deputies were called to the Collins Aire Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of North Timberline Road about 4:41 p.m. Thursday on reports of a road rage incident.

A woman called 911 to report that an adult male, later identified as Les Austin Johnston, followed her into the mobile home park, exited his vehicle yelling at her and started striking her with his fists.

The woman's small child was in the vehicle and she feared for her safety. The suspect drove a short distance away and exited his vehicle before deputies arrived. The woman and her child were not injured.

When deputies located Johnston, 26, they began questioning him about the road rage incident. Johnston was acting erratically and aggressively toward the deputies so they detained him.

Johnston began resisting and kicking the deputies, even striking one in the chest and face. More deputies responded and they were able to get control of Johnston and secure him in a patrol vehicle.

The deputies were not injured. Johnston was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He was later booked into the Larimer County Jail on second-degree assault, resisting arrest, DUI and harassment. He remains in custody on $2,000 bond.
