Colorado Heart Gallery Features Kids In Foster Care

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Heart Gallery is on display at the State Capitol building through Friday. The travelling display features pictures of kids who are currently living in foster care but are eligible for adoption.

"The Heart Gallery focuses many times on older youth or children and youth who are part of a sibling group, who are in need of a home," said Julie Krow, deputy executive director of community partnerships at the Colorado Department of Human Services.

The pictures are taken by volunteer photographers, putting sweet faces to the names of the 266 kids in foster care who are hoping for a forever family.

"For people that are in the community and maybe thinking about becoming an adoptive home, they see the photos and they think, 'Oh, this person might be a fit more my family,'" Krow told CBS4.

The average age of the children in the Colorado Heart Gallery is 9 years old, there is also high demand for families for older teens and sibling groups.

Adoption from foster care has little to no cost.

The Colorado Heart Gallery also includes an online component with the pictures and videos of the children and youth.
