60 Neglected Animals Rescued From Home In Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Sixty animals including dogs, puppies, cats, parrots, and horses were removed from a property in Lincoln County on Thursday due to neglect.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office shared the news on Facebook, saying the animals were living in unsanitary conditions and many were malnourished or had untreated medical conditions.

Connie and Dave Caswell, owners of the property, were operating a substandard and unlicensed rescue facility, said the sheriff's office. They were also breeding dogs.

Local authorities were informed by Lakewood Animal Care and Control after animals involved in neglect cases in Lakewood were moved to the Caswell's property.

"The conditions these animals had to endure were terrible," said Lincoln County Sheriff Tom Nestor.

Sixty animals were seized by law enforcement Thursday after a warrant was issued. They were taken into protective custody by the Colorado Humane Society, who is sheltering them in multiple locations.
