Stranded Passengers May Need To Spend 2nd Night At DIA

DENVER (CBS4)- Stranded passengers at Denver International Airport may have to spend a second night on the floor as airlines struggle to find seats on flights after the airport closed on Wednesday.

More than 1,300 flights were cancelled when DIA closed on Wednesday afternoon because of blizzard conditions. Several hundred flights had been cancelled earlier in the day when the airport experienced a power outage and the FAA called a ground stop.

Some passengers were concerned they would have to sleep on the floor for another night because hundreds of people lined up to get only a few empty seats left on planes departing DIA on Thursday.

"We were given mats and blankets and some food... it's all good," said passenger Kelli Lyn.

"It didn't really hit us until we got here that we had to stay, it's whatever, it's just for a night. If we get stuck here again I'll have to get a hotel room but I can't stand the floor, I can't stand the floor again dude," said passenger Jake Plumley.

Another issue at DIA is where to put all the snow in the parking lots. Parking is limited in the outside and satellite lots because of the snow piled up.
