Canadian Man Charged In 'Brutal Sexual Assault' At Denver Hotel

DENVER (CBS4) - A Canadian man has been formally charged in connection with a sexual assault at a Denver hotel last November.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Colby James Messer, 30, has been charged with six counts of sexual assault in connection with a "brutal sexual assault of a 27-year-old woman."

"Messer was visiting Denver with several friends, also from Canada, in mid-November. The charges allege that Messer met the victim at a Denver bar and took her back to the hotel room he was sharing with his friends, where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted," Kimbrough said in a statement.

Kimbrough said police in Denver investigating the assault identified several suspects who had all returned to Canada.

"Messer was arrested when he returned to the United States earlier this month. He was taken into custody in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 4 … waived extradition and arrived in Denver late (Tuesday)," Kimbrough said.

Messer appeared in court on Wednesday for his first advisement.

Kimbrough said the investigation is ongoing.
