Kubiak: Broncos, RG3 Possible Match

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (The Sports Xchange)- Gary Kubiak sounded convincing when he said Mark Sanchez could flourish in the Denver Broncos' offense.

But the second-year head coach admits the Broncos are still taking a long look at other options, including Robert Griffin III.

"He is one of the free guys out there," Kubiak said. "He's obviously been part of the conversation. We'll see what happens, he's a talented young man."

There is some doubt Denver is set at quarterback. Beyond having just two on the roster, one being a former starter in Sanchez relegated to backup duty with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Broncos showed some interest in other veterans. Denver reportedly had its toes in the water in negotiations for Colin Kaepernick, only for the San Francisco 49ers to demand a high draft pick in return.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, another unrestricted free agent, is widely believed to be going back to the Jets. His asking price was too high for Denver, and to date has been rich for New York.
"One of the things we feel really good about is we feel good about getting Mark," Kubiak said. "Mark's got 60 starts in this league -- he's started two AFC Championship (games) ... we feel really good about him, how he fits. He's got some background in what we do."

Kubiak said RG3 is also intriguing because of his big-game experience. He has discussed Griffin with Mike Shanahan, with whom Kubiak worked and the head coach in Washington when the Redskins grabbed Griffin with the No. 2 overall pick in 2012.

"Obviously he hasn't played much in the last year and a half ... but he's still young, very young kid, all those things he's got working for him," Kubiak said. "I'm sure he's looking for the best possible opportunity for himself. Guys like that bounce back, they've done good things before and they expect to do good things again."
