Snowmobiler Injured In Grand County Crash

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A man who was severely hurt during a snowmobiling trip in Grand County on Saturday morning had to be flown to Denver by a medical helicopter.

The incident happened in the Church's Park area.

Grand County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Mayer said the man was with several other people on snowmobiles when a female snowmobiler accidentally hit his and severely fractured his lower leg in the process.

There was no cellphone service in the area, so another snowmobiler rode to a trailhead to call for help. A sergeant from the Grand County Sheriff's office who was snowmobiling nearby was the first to respond, and deputies from from Summit and Larimer counties also came to help.

A helicopter flew the man to a hospital in the Denver metro area about 45 minutes later.

Grand County is one of several areas in Colorado's high country that has gotten slammed with snow in the past five days. The area where the accident happened had approximately 40 inches of fresh snow on Saturday.

Authorities are investigating the incident. They said it's possible the female snowmobiler might be cited for careless or reckless driving.
