Couple Says They Have Video Of Burglar Who Stole Jewelry Worth $13,000

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) - A Broomfield couple hopes a burglary suspect caught on camera will soon be caught by police. He broke into their home during the daytime and stole some expensive and special jewelry.

"There is nothing worse than a thief," Jim Turner said.

Home surveillance video shows a brazen burglar in action -- a man who stole a lifetime's worth of memories from Jim and Sheila Turner.

"It just really is a bummer. I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through," Sheila told CBS4's Tom Mustin.

On March 7, shortly before 9 a.m., the Turner's security camera at their Broomfield home captured a man casing the home.

"That somebody would be so brazen to do this with everybody around ... this guy is a pro," said Sheila.

In the video, the man walks to the front porch, then across the front lawn to the back yard where he kicked open the back door and entered the home.

"This is where he kicked the door in," Jim said to Mustin, as he showed the wood fragments on his kitchen floor.

The crook went straight to the Turner's bedroom where he stole $13,000 worth of jewelry, including Sheila's beloved family rings.

"This guy knew what he was doing. He was in and out of the house. Every drawer, every cabinet had been opened and shuffled through," she said.

Twenty minutes later video shows the man leaving through the front door, his backpack stuffed with loot. Minutes later Sheila returned home to an unlocked front door. Now the couple is hoping the home video will help put the man behind bars.

"Definitely mad. Anytime someone gets into your space and steals your stuff, there's nothing worse than that. We just want to catch the guy to make sure he doesn't do it to anybody else," Jim said.

As Broomfield police search for the suspected thief, Sheila is hoping the karma police are also on alert.

"I'd like to believe people get what's coming to them. So I hope he does," she said.

Broomfield police describe the suspect as a white or Hispanic man in his late 50s to early 60s. He has a gray mustache and grayish hair pulled back into a pony tail. Anyone with information is asked to call Broomfield police.
