Westminster Police Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Stolen Pickup

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Westminster are investigating a fatal crash involving a stolen pickup that occurred Tuesday evening.

The crash happened on Wadsworth Boulevard near Independence Drive just after 5:30 p.m.

According to police, the owner of a Ford F-350 pickup observed his truck being stolen from 8600 block of 86th Circle. The truck owner got in another vehicle and called police while following his stolen truck going northbound on Wadsworth.

While driving away an ATV fell off the pickup's trailer into traffic. It's not clear if the ATV caused any accidents. Police pursued the Ford, which then crossed the median on Wadsworth into oncoming traffic and collided with a Jeep traveling southbound.

The lone occupant of the Jeep, Jessica Holman, was killed.

A witness heard the crash before he saw it.

"I heard some tires screeching, and basically a loud boom, a big noise. Didn't know what it was at first, went over close towards the fence to my dog, saw the cars rolled over, saw a truck and then a car next to it rolled over, some smoke emanating from the hood," said the witness, who wished to remain anonymous.

One suspect was taken into custody at the scene. A large perimeter was set up in the area to find another suspect who fled the scene on foot, a Hispanic male wearing a blue shirt. Air One arrived to aid the search.

Police believe there is no threat to homes in the area but are asking neighbors to be vigilant.

It's not clear if either of the suspects were injured in the crash.

Wadsworth had to be shut down between Independence Drive and 104th Avenue for the investigation.
