Man Shot In Head During Home Invasion At Pot Grow House

By Melissa Garcia

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Police are searching for two suspects in a shooting at a marijuana grow house in Westminster Saturday evening.

The violent home invasion sent one man to the hospital. Police said that he would be getting surgery for multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

Investigators right now are searching for a motive, and said that the crime could be related to the grow operation inside.

Police said two black male suspects went in the home on Canosa Court near West 70th Avenue at about 6:20 p.m. and shot a man inside.

"It used to be a safe place," said a neighbor of her neighborhood. "But with this happening, I don't know."

Some neighbors felt shaken up by the shooting on their normally peaceful block.

"Actually, it's a pretty quiet neighborhood," said one woman.

Another neighbor said that a new tenant had just moved in to the home of the shooting, a rental home, within the last month or so. A couple of house guests were hanging out inside the house when police said two armed black male suspects went in, shot one of the guests, and assaulted the other.

Paramedics rushed the gunshot victim to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said that the suspects fled quickly and no arrests had been made.

Officers found 30 to 50 marijuana plants inside the house. Investigators were working to determine if the crime was connected to the marijuana, and if the operation was legal.

Neighbors who didn't want to talk on camera for fear of retaliation said it's not the only grow house in the area.

Some neighbors said the home invasion and shooting had put them in so much fear that they were staying at a hotel until the suspects could be caught.
