Pursuit Ends When Deputy Slams Into Suspect's SUV

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- A pursuit ended early Saturday morning in Larimer County after a sheriff's deputy slammed his patrol car into the suspect's vehicle.

The pursuit began when deputies tried to pull over the driver at the Econolodge located at 601 SW Frontage Road in Fort Collins for fictitious plates. The deputy made contact with the adult female driver and adult male passenger who provided false information to the deputy.

When the deputy asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, she sped away and led deputies on a chase at times reaching nearly 100 mph.

The chase took deputies onto Interstate 25, east onto Highway 34 into Weld County and then west again on Highway 34 towards Loveland. During the pursuit the suspects were seen throwing items from the vehicle and deputies later recovered what they believe to be narcotics.

Deputies deployed stop sticks to get the driver to slow down and then one deputy rammed his patrol car into the suspect's vehicle at the Promenade Shops at Centerra in Loveland.

"The vehicle wanted to continue on then one of our vehicles had to ram it to get the vehicle to stop, to get it to stop from taking off again," said Larimer County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Perry Malisani.

Deputies told CBS4 both the driver, Jessica Lynn Padilla and her passenger, Gilbert Padilla, had warrants out for their arrests. They were taken to the hospital where they were treated for injuries and released into the custody of authorities. No deputies were injured in the pursuit or crash.

Jessica Padilla is facing charges of vehicular eluding, criminal impersonation, unlawful possession of a controlled substance schedule II, tampering with physical evidence and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, failure to appear and contempt of court.

Gilbert Padilla is facing charges of tampering with physical evidence, failure to appear on a DUI among other charges.
