Ground Broken On New 98-Unit Affordable Housing Project In Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - More affordable housing will soon be available in Denver.

City officials on Wednesday celebrated the groundbreaking of an affordable housing development in Denver's Westwood neighborhood.

The Westwood Crossing Apartments will be on Alameda Avenue near Federal Boulevard. The four-story building will have a commercial space for retail businesses and 98 apartments for low and moderate income households including 56 two-bedroom units.

"You know what that does to this community? You know what that provides for the people of Denver? You know what that provides for a lot of people who say, 'I can no longer afford to live in the neighborhood that I was born and raised in?'" It gives them that opportunity to do that for their children," said Rick Padilla, Denver's Director of Housing and Neighborhoods.

The City of Denver also plans to build two more affordable housing developments in the Northfield-Stapleton and Hale neighborhoods.
