Bernie Sanders Rallies Supporters In Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- After a landslide loss in South Carolina on Saturday, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders traveled to Fort Collins to rally supporters.

Sanders spoke to a huge crowd at Moby Arena on the Colorado State University campus on Sunday. The crowd started gathering 12 hours before the Vermont senator spoke.

"Obviously I'm in Colorado because I want to be President Sanders," said Sanders.

The crowd was filled with a majority of young adults and students. Sanders is relying on them and their social networks to win in Colorado on Super Tuesday as well as regain momentum and delegates in the race.

He repeatedly covered usual topics like student loan debt and free college tuition, health care, income inequality and social issues impacting minorities.

"He's the only one that stands up for the little people, he knows we need change and it's not going to happen by doing the same old thing like all the other guys are talking about," said supporter Carrie Goldsworthy.

Sanders spoke to the crowd for an hour and 15 minutes.

"His integrity, he stays the same all the way through his career. He doesn't tell you one thing and then change his mind later," said Fort Collins resident Dean.

"It was invigorating and I was glad to see some people that I talked to in line that were here to find out what Bernie was all about and I saw them looking pretty pleased," said Goldsworthy.

"Colorado can play an enormously important roll in leading this country forward toward a political revolution," said Sanders.

Sanders is hoping to win states on Tuesday like Minnesota and Oklahoma but two of the tightest races could be in Massachusetts and Colorado.
