Secrets To Saving Money On Amazon

DENVER (CBS4) - Online retailer Amazon.com recently announced it raised the minimum purchase amount to trigger free shipping. Instead of spending just $35 to get free shipping, you now have to pay $49.

Shopping blogger Kyle James says that you can offset that increase with his secret savings tips. He outlines eight little-known ways to save at Amazon.com on his website, Rather-be-shopping.com.

Shoppers can get price protection for up to seven days on a purchase from Amazon. If the price of your purchase goes down, you'll get a refund.

"Amazon's great -- within seven days they'll give you that price difference," James told CBS4 via Skype.

Don't have the time or inclination to keep checking the prices of your purchases? James has a website for that.

"I recommend using camelcamelcamel.com, which is a website. You can actually put in products for Amazon and it will actually send you an email for when the price drops on that product at Amazon," James explained.

Sometimes the online retailer charges its Prime members more than non-members.

"Prime members, a lot of time, they're price insensitive. They're kind of a captive audience, so it's just something to be aware of," said James.

He recommends checking prices using different browsers to search the product while logged into Prime and also without being logged into your membership.

"In some cases the price will be different."

Another cost cutting measure, there is a little-known coupon section on the site. You can find coupon codes for all kinds of household items.

"It's not something they really advertise, so if you're a Prime shopper or not a Prime shopper you can use these coupons. And it's a great way to save."

Ready to get rid of some of your Amazon items? Sell them back to the website.

"They'll actually look at your past orders and they'll tell you what your items are worth and what items they will buy back," James said.

This is just a few of the tips you can find at "8 Little-Known Secrets to Saving Money on Amazon".
