Colorado To Debate Organic Label For Marijuana

DENVER (AP) - Marijuana has attracted many labels in its time. Now "certified organic" could be one of them.

A Colorado state House committee starts debate Friday on becoming the first state to regulate organic labels in its pot industry.

Because organic standards are regulated federally, and pot remains illegal at the federal level, there's no way for consumers to tell whether marijuana carrying an "organic" name really is.

Colorado is likely just the first state to tighten the rules for advertising marijuana products as organic. California has a plan to set standards by 2020, and other states are watching to see whether consumers need more confidence when buying organic pot.
