Carrie Fisher Coming To Denver Comic Con

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Comic Con confirms actress Carrie Fisher will attend this year's June 17 to June 19 event at the Colorado Convention Center.

Fisher is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the first three Star Wars films, and her reprised role in the most recent installment, The Force Awakens.

"Fisher brings to life a brave and powerful character that generations of girls looked up to," said Christina Angel, director of the Denver Comic Con. "Leia isn't a princess in the traditional Disney sense, she is a member of the Imperial Senate, one of the Rebel Alliance's greatest leaders, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire. She does not wait for her prince to rescue her."

Fisher is also known for her roles in Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally, and Shampoo, as well as being a bestselling author.

"Not only is Leia an amazing example of female strength," says Angel, "but so is Fisher herself. Denver Comic Con is lucky to have her speak to us about her career and experiences."

Denver Comic Con already has an impressive lineup for this summer, which includes Stan Lee (Marvel Comics), Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid), C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders), William Zabka and Martin Kove (Karate Kid), and Jenna Coleman and Alex Kingston (Doctor Who) among many other comic book creators and pop culture celebrities.

Fisher's appearance schedule has not yet been set.
