More Than A Quarter Of DPS Students Out 'Sick' During Broncos Parade

DENVER (CBS4) – More than a quarter of all Denver Public Schools students were out sick on Tuesday, the day of the Broncos Super Bowl victory parade and rally.

Of the 90,000 students who attend early childhood education through high school at DPS, 24,152 were out for one class period or more Tuesday.

"That is 10,314 more than were absent on Wednesday of last week," says DPS spokesman Will Jones, "and 9,268 more than were gone Monday."

A lot of young Broncos fans in the crowd lining the streets for the parade and at the rally told CBS4's Suzanne McCarroll they had "Bronco-it is," "Orange virus," Blue pneumonia," and "Blue virus."

Apparently their "illnesses" only kept them out of school for the day, since Jones says on Wednesday everything "seemed to be back to normal, including attendance."
