The field goal was made on the Broncos opening drive, in which quarterback Peyton Manning threw four passes for 47 yards.

The Broncos started on offense after the Panthers won the coin toss and elected to defer.

The Broncos other score in the quarter was an exciting one. With 6:34 left the Broncos linebacker Von Miller strip sacked Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and defensive lineman Malik Jackson leaped for the fumbled ball, grabbing it as he fell into the endzone.

It made the score Broncos 10, Panthers 0.

That was the score at the end of the quarter.
