Broncos Fans Might Take Issue With N.C. Highway Sign 'Prediction'

DENVER (CBS4) - Last week the CBS station in Charlotte reported on a small town in North Carolina that has a big following of Panthers fans.

Why was this news?

Because the town is named Denver.

Reporter Steve Ohnesorge made some fun comparisons between the two municipalities with the same name in his story.

One thing he didn't point out, though, is that about 13 miles down the road from Denver, North Carolina, is a town called Newton.

And the Broncos and their No. 1 defense is of course preparing for a Carolina Panthers offense led by the dynamic quarterback Cam Newton.

So it seems rather amazing that there is such a short distance between the two towns with names that make one immediately think of Sunday's Super Bowl 50 matchup.

Panthers fan Jason Smith was driving down the highway in North Carolina this week and took a moment to snap a photo of a sign showing the distance from his spot to the two towns.

Broncos fans probably won't like the pic he posted to Facebook too much, because it looks like the sign is making a Super Bowl prediction: Denver 7, Newton 20.

"A sign from the football gods!!" he wrote.

There is a lot more to the Panthers than Newton (their defense ain't too shabby either), but if the Broncos can keep Newton from doing his celebration dances, Derek Wolfe and the rest of the Broncos will show that they don't need the help of football gods to win the big game.
