Snowstorm Leaves Temperatures That Can Freeze A Wet T-Shirt In Minutes

DENVER (CBS4) - The snowstorm that dropped an official 11.6 inches of snow in Denver over Monday and Tuesday left behind even colder temperatures than it arrived with.

Meteorologist Chris Spears conducted an experiment to display just how cold it really was Wednesday morning. He thoroughly soaked a typical cotton T-shirt in lukewarm water, then rung it out and hung it up to 'dry' in the frigid morning air.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., the temperature in Denver was 13 degrees. The next time Spears appeared on air at about 6 a.m., the t-shirt was completely frozen. He said it actually only took about 10 minutes for the shirt to freeze through. Ice crystals began appearing on the shirt by 6:30 a.m.

It's a reminder what very cold temperatures can do, and for people to be mindful of things such as an outdoor pet.
